Persons of Interest: Hanako Saihara: An average young woman from Iwatodai. Hanging out in a group of friends, she was known to have been closest to one Satoshi Akamatsu. She was known to have been studying and been a member of her school's Floristry Club; however, with her academic excellence and seeming natural talent for everything, Hanako was sought after by most clubs. One summer afternoon in 2014, Hanako disappeared around the forests of Iwatodai, only to have been found dead a few days afterward. As one of the few unexpected deaths in the last decade in Iwatodai, her death was much mourned. Hanako was, in life, a quiet girl, composed and polite; with her parents being wealthy and traveling often, she was left alone at home to raise her brother Kousei, leaving her very closed off at first, until she formed a friendship with Satoshi. It was said that her friendship with Satoshi and the rest opened Hanako up, to the point that she began to help others openly before her unfortunate passing. Her passing ended her parents' travels; out of regret, they changed fields to stay in Iwatodai, close to their remaining child. Kousei Saihara: Hanako's younger brother, a young man with a great interest in music and a particular talent for singing, with the desire to reach the Budokan one day. After Hanako's death, however, his desire to sing seemed to gradually fade away, as he became more withdrawn, with the only visitor who still paid him regular visits being Satoshi and a few other close friends. Already naturally quiet, his sister's passing left a clear mark upon the young man, though when he does open up to others, he is known to be kind-hearted, and trying to move on. Yelena Akasaka: A half-Russian girl who loves art, winning many of the school competitions for art in the last few years. While not in the tightly-knit group that was Satoshi and Hanako's group, she was known to be around the periphery, being close to Hanako in particular. Before Hanako's death, Yelena was a cheerful presence in Yadomi High, sweet and bubbly to others, while afterwards, that happiness was notably muted, though in recent months she seems to have recovered most of it. However, something in her paintings seems to have been lost. Chizuru Amagi: The president of the Denpa Detection Club, a school society dedicated to both Espers and logging Abnormalities. An odd sort, Chizuru moved in from elsewhere, shortly after Hanako's death, and established the "society" through finagling. While kind enough, Chizuru is energetic, convinced that most supernatural things are caused by denpa waves, including Abnormalities, and sees all things as ultimately caused by the power of denpa. However, to those in the know, she seems to have a great understanding of how Abnormalities work, despite this. However, as a result of her oddness, Chizuru lacks many friends, bar Ayane Takeba. Ayane Takeba: A "queen bee" student from one of the shrine families, one of Iwatodai's few known Espers who possesses the power to read auras. Ayane used her powers to do favours for others, ranging from matchmaking to helping others sort out their arguments, for which she has become incredibly popular in the student body. While close to Hanako prior to her death, Ayane was seemingly not too affected by her death after a period of grieving, and continued right on. Despite being on different rungs of the social ladder, however, she and Chizuru Amagi are friends, with Ayane being the only other member of the Denpa Detection Club; when questioned on this, Ayane consistently insists that she "lost a bet", for which the penalty was to join the Detection Club. Rio Kurenai: A young delinquent, who, expelled from her school in Tokyo for street races under the title of the Crimson Bloom, was sent to her relatives in Iwatodai. While not a fan of authority to the point that shouting matches between her and Yadomi High's teachers are not unknown, she is known to have a great sense of honor and justice, protecting local children from bullies, helping out locals who need it and watching out for her youngers. However, given her status as a city delinquent in a quiet, albeit large, country town, Rio is not well-liked, as the local delinquents dislike her for stopping their pranks on the innocent, while those who aren't under her protection dislike her for being a yankii. Natsuo Honma: One of the smartest students in Yadomi High to the point of routinely beating students from nearby Amamiya in academic competitions and current student council treasurer, Natsuo is, despite his multitude of achievements, a shy young man who lacks confidence. There were rumours prior to Hanako's death that he had an interest in the young lady as the two spent some time together alone; if such rumours were true, Natsuo has never said. Nowadays, he is often seen in the school library or the local library when school is out, reading up on books about public speaking, relationship advice and horticulture. Hatori Terasawa: Captain of the track team at Yadomi High, a boisterous, brash young man whose easy manner nonetheless won him many friends as the start of the track. He was also close to Hanako prior to her death. A popular young man, he has had no end of confessions leveled at him at the Friendship Gardens - and no shortage of rejections equalled to the confessions he has received. Nonetheless, he is well-liked enough to attract a good group of friends, and good-natured enough to keep them. Nene Shinomiya: A young woman who lived in the same neighborhood as Hanako and Satoshi, she was interested in the technical side of music from a young age due to having parents who worked as music technicians for bands abroad. A quick-witted, blunt woman, she nonetheless viewed Hanako as a sister and Satoshi as a brother, and sought to work for an entertainment agency in a technical capacity later. A few weeks before Hanako's death, however, the Shinomiya family moved to Sapporo, and little contact has been had between Nene and Iwatodai. However, rumours suggest that Nene has returned to Iwatodai....
